After winning hearts with his music in Vijay Sethupathi’s 96, Govind Vasantha has become the talk of the town, making him the most sought-after composer in Kollywood. Ever since the release of 96 album, Govind has been signing many projects and the latest news is that he has signed his next film in Mani Ratnam’s production.

Announcing the news on his Instagram page, Govind said: “With the man who brought Velunayakan and Anandan to life in front of us.  Honoured to have signed up for a movie to be produced and co-written by The Mani Ratnam. Directed by Dhana Sekaran.”

The project is said to go on the floors very soon and the makers are yet to reveal the cast and crew details.

The Thaikkudam Bridge frontman has an excellent lineup of films in his kitty. Having recently signed Uriyadi 2, he awaits the release of Vijay Sethupathi’s Seethakathi. Having produced several independent albums, he made his Tamil debut as a composer with last year’s Solo, directed by Bejoy Nambiar.

However, his work in 96 earned him praise from all quarters and made him an overnight sensation.

In an interview to The Hindu, talking about 96 he said that he didn’t have to go out of his way to compose for the album. “If you look at my violin compositions on SoundCloud, you will find that most of them are melancholic tracks. I had no confusion in executing the songs of 96 because I could emotionally connect with the situations.”

Govind’s lilting music really elevated the viewing experience of 96, which struck gold at the box-office. The film is all set to be remade in Telugu and it has to be seen if Govind will be roped in as its composer.
