Online entertainment ticketing platform BookMyShow said that it has sold over 3.3 million tickets so far, for Baahubali 2, which was released across the country on Friday.
This amounts to 12 tickets every second, a day before the release of filmmaker SS Rajamouli's magnum opus, the company said.
With this, Baahubali 2 which was released in over 6000 screens on Friday, has created an all-time record on BookMyShow for advance ticket sales surpassing Baahubali 1 by over 350%.
Baahubali 2, which is most loved by the viewers in South India, continues to see a phenomenal response from Hindi-speaking markets also, it said.
Baahubali 2 is definitely taking the Indian film industry by surprise. The film, even before its release, has proved that its a blockbuster like no other with an extremely high chance of it entering the Rs 100 crore club on day 1 itself," said Ashish Saksena, COO-Cinemas, BookMyShow.
"We have witnessed unprecedented advance ticket bookings on BookMyShow as fans bought as many as 12 tickets a second. The movie has clearly broken all language barriers and has reaffirmed that the audience loves to watch good content," he said.
However, not all those who pre-booked on BookMyShow could get tickets for the film, as many fans said that their tickets were not confirmed, even though they had booked a week in advance.
The initial message said, “You have successfully registered your Pre-Book request for Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (UA). We shall let you know as soon as your tickets are confirmed at the cinema through mail or SMS when the bookings open.”
However, several people received a message later from the website, stating, “BMS Info: Dear Customer, apologies your pre-booking could not be confirmed as per the preferences selected against the pre-booking ID _____. We have processed your complete refund and your transaction amount will be refunded within 10 working days.”
Meanwhile, Baahubali 2 opened to a massive worldwide release on Friday.
Directed by SS Rajamouli, the two-part series has been shot over five years and has broken several records.
