The News Minute| August 2, 2014| 1.10 pm ISTLet’s hold hands and cuddle up on the couch, or listen to some soft MUSIC while we curl up in your bed—I am happy to be the big spoon or the little spoon. My purpose is to make you feel comfortable, loved, and appreciated. This is what Samantha Hess’s Cuddle up to me website says. Samantha is a professional ‘cuddler.’Many may think it’s bizarre, but Hess has been cuddling for more than a year and charges $60 for an hour-long snuggle. The Business Insider reports that in May 2013, Hess started Cuddle Up To Me. A month later, a local newspaper featured her business in its annual “Best of Portland” issue, which helped the company gain traction. From there, the story spread to over 40 TV stations across the country, accumulating over 17 million views. She has various cuddling positions and tailors almost everything to the client’s need. The sessions can be on a love seat, in a park, movie theatre or even a bedroom.Mixing the cuddle sessions with music therapy and personalized touch has made Samantha Hess quite popular and she now intends to start her first retail store. The cuddling retail store will also give certification through a 40-hour-long training program. Hess told USA today, "The cuddle sessions are NOT to be interpreted as sexual"; "both parties will remain fully clothed"; and "cleanliness and adequate hygiene are required by both parties."
