When Irrfan Khan rejected a Steven Spielberg film

Irrfan Khan, one of the most sought after Indian actors in the west, has revealed he turned down Oscar-winning Steven Spielberg's project with Scarlett Johansson as he did not feel the character offered him "much scope."

Irrfan's small but shining Hollywood filmography includes films like "The Namesake", "Life of Pi" and "Jurassic World".

The 49-year-old actor will be next seen with Tom Hanks in "Inferno".

"I didn't feel the character offered to me gave me much scope. So I said 'No'; though Scarlett Johansson is an actor I would have loved to share screen space with," Irrfan said in an interview to NDTV.

Director Ron Howard's "Inferno" is an adaptation of 2013 mystery thriller novel by American author Dan Brown.

The film is the sequel to "Angels & Demons", and stars Tom Hanks, reprising his role as Robert Langdon, along with Felicity Jones, Omar Sy, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Ben Foster.
