The News Minute | August 26, 2014 | 01:28 pm ISTSamsung recently came out with an advertisement ridiculing Apple’s “wall-huggers” – people who plug in their devices at the nearest charging points in restaurants, washrooms and even the airport waiting lounge. But some “wall-huggers” might have reason to smile as Apple has launched a battery replacement program to rectify a “small percentage” of iPhone 5 devices experiencing “shorter battery life” or the “need to be charged more frequently”.Affected phones however, are only those sold between September 2012 and January 2013, most likely the first set of devices sold after its launch. To determine if a user is eligible, Apple’s site allows one to check eligibility for battery replacement by entering their phone’s serial number.Replacement processes have started on August 22, 2014 in US and China. Elsewhere, the phones will be replaced from August 29, 2014 onward.The site also indicates that no replacement will be done to a damaged phone. So issues with the phone need to be “resolved prior to the battery replacement.” Also, others who have already replaced the faulty batteries, will be provided a refund. Looks like it’s a light at the end of the tunnel – for a few iPhone users.
