The News Minute| October 2, 2014| 8.40 pm ISTMost probably the next country to wage war against the social networking giants - Google, Facebook, and Twitter will be Russia. The Register, a tech website based out of United Kingdom says that under a new Russian law, these sites have been asked to register themselves as "organizers of information distribution".This also means that all data on the Russian users of these sites will be stored in Russian data centers. The government also has the power to take down anything shared by its citizens, which it finds to be “offensive”.In Russia, networking sites and bloggers with more than 3000 readers have to register. It is now up to these networking sites to give an answer. In case they are unwilling to co-operate they face a penalty of 500,000 roubles, along with a ban on doing business with Russian consumers.As of now, none of the sites have responded to the issue, they reportedly have 12 more days to reply.
