The News Minute | July 5, 2014 | 5:35 PM IST Several Khap Panchayats in Haryana, India, are infamous for many-a-things- be it the regressive measures they practice or the honour killings that happen to be their most popular achievements. They evoke fear in some, and loathing in others. And few create a Khap alter ego, so that the rest do not miss out on anything they say or do.Two years ago Tushar Sharma, a then engineering student in Jaipur, struck upon an idea while watching a television show, Satyamev Jayate. The show hosted by Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, that eventually went on to become a hit, discussed various social issues the country was grappling with. One of the episodes was based on Khap Panchayats that worked like kangaroo courts in villages. The Khaps shot to infamy due to the increasing number of honour killings of couples who married against the rules of the Khap.It is shortly afterwards that Sharma began a parody account on Khap Panchayat. “There was a fierce debate going on about this issue over Twitter and it just hit me that making a parody handle could be interesting. There wasn't an aim or an inspiration behind making this handle. I had no idea what I would tweet about. It just happened on impulse and I signed up”, says he.With over 10,000 followers at present, his parody account proudly claims: “Making a world a better place, one missing couple at a time. Go against us and we’ll fatwa your behinds”.The account is a witty take on anything and everything under the sun from the Khap’s perspective.Sharma usually tweets just once or twice a day, because of the unavailability of constant influx of content. Although the response for the account has been mostly positive till now, it could be tiring when carried for too long. “It is quite difficult to think up (of) content because I'm not parodying a person but an unorganised organisation. This is why I post only 1-2 tweets every day. Sometimes I've stopped curating the handle for weeks due to the fatigue caused by posting the same type of tweets”, states Sharma.Interestingly, Twitter also happens to be the source of most of Sharma’s ideas. “I follow a lot of interesting people and through them I chance upon a story or a conversation about some issue that's going on”. Like many, he also believes that our politicians make sure that there is no shortage of stupid statements, that don’t even need to be worked upon much. He, however, doesn’t “want to parody an individual and I don't think I have the resolve to parody another entity”.Though most of the statements made by the Khap are ‘laugh-worthy’, Sharma strongly deplores their actions. His tweets are sardonic and scathing at the same time.So as this Khap double swears to make the world a better place, we have a look at some of the most rib-tickling and jaw-hurting tweets from him. Women wearing jeans, using cell phone, going to schools/colleges, who have a boyfriend or a friend who is a boy or plan to marry someone from the gotra… basically all women, run and hide.
