Kannada actor Sanchari Vijay wins National Award for Best Actor

The News Minute | March 24, 2015 | 4.20 pm ISTThe story of a father having to return to his village with the body of his young son as told in Harivu has won the National Film Award for best Kannada Film.Directed by Manjunath S, and also called Mansore, the film talks about a man who has come to take the body of his young son back to his village in a box. Parts of the relationship between father and son are semi-autobiographical and conveyed through the eyes of a journalist.He began to think of making the film on 2011 when he read a column about a man who had to take the body of his son. It was also a time when he had just lost his father and some of the grief found itself reflected in the film.The award citation says, "For his subtle and non-stereotypical playing of a woman trapped in a man’s body, portraying a gamut of emotions as s/he struggles through confusion, rejection and humiliation to finally chart her own course with confidence and dignity."Harivu meaning "the flow", was released in 2014. Watch the trailer of the film here:Manjunath had worked for several years as a freelance art director and had studied in Bengaluru art school Chitrakala Parishat.
