The News Minute | December 20, 2014 | 6.30 pm ISTInstagram is on a cleaning spree as it deletes millions of fake instagram accounts this week, according to a report on Fox news.According to the report, this move by the social media website has not gone well with its users as many of them took to twitter to voice their grievances.Instagram issued a notice regarding this change which stated, “We’re in the process of fixing an issue that incorrectly includes inactive or fake accounts in follower/following lists. We want to maintain the best possible experience on Instagram, so we do our best to remove spam, fake accounts and other people and posts that don’t follow our Community Guidelines. As we remove these accounts, some people may notice a decrease in their follower/following counts.” The report goes on to say that this clean up act by the website has resulted in Justin Bieber being knocked off from being the number one celebrity on social media platform with him losing 15% of his followers.According to the report the decrease in the number of followers is indicative of users that have purchased fake followers. The report also says that besides fake accounts the Instagram cleanup act has also removed accounts which promoted nudity, video or photos of illegal actions or anything that glorifies self harm.
