Deepavali across the sea: Singapore is celebrating with a rangoli-bedecked train

Written by : TNM Staff

As Indians spread around the globe, Deepavali’s been getting attention across countries. And with each passing year, the festival of lights gets grander overseas. This year, Singapore is launching its grandest gesture of bonhomie with India yet – decorating an entire train around the Deepavali theme!

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore collaborated with Little India shopkeepers and Heritage Association (LISHA) to commission the first Deepavali-themed train on October 15, bedecked with beautiful rangoli patterns and images of the lotus and the peacock, symbols of good luck.

The LTA’s Facebook page features beautiful images of the Deepavali train as well as the decorations at two of Little India’s train stations.

The themed train was launched today by Minister for Transport, Mr Khaw Boon Wan.

Both the North East Line and Downtown Line platforms at Little India Station have been decorated with the same festive theme

The train will run on the North East line till mid-November.
