Wipro on Friday, June 18, announced that 80% of its workforce will receive a second salary hike this year from September 1, 2021. Wipro said that eligible employees up to Band B3, which is those at the level of Assistant Manager and below, will receive the hike. A hike had previously been announced for these bands in January 2021.

“Wipro Limited will initiate merit salary increases (MSI) for all eligible employees up to Band B3 (Assistant Manager and below), effective September 1, 2021. In January 2021, the company had announced salary hikes for eligible employees in these bands, who form 80% of the company’s workforce – this is the second hike in this calendar year,” it said in a statement.

Wipro added that eligible employees at the level of manager and above will receive their already-announced pay hikes from June 1. “On average, the increments will be in the high single digits for offshore employees while it will be in the mid-single digits for onsite employees. The company will reward top performers with substantially higher increases,” Wipro said in its statement.

Attrition saw an uptick at 12.1% in Wipro during the last quarter in FY21, and voluntary attrition in IT services excluding Digital Operations and Platforms came in at 14.7%. While announcing its results in April, Wipro had promised skill-based bonuses to employees who work in areas that are currently in demand such as cybersecurity and AI.

“There is more demand for people with the right skills. We have also seen an uptick in attrition. We are taking enough action. If you take 3 months back, 80% of our employees got a salary hike which was differentiated, extremely aggressive salary hikes which we have given. In the last three quarters of the last fiscal, we paid 100% variable pay to all our employees. Our junior employees, we did a promotion in December, and there will be one for all employees in six months,” Chief HR officer Saurabh Govil had said. At the time, Wipro had said that pay hikes will be coming up for senior employees.
