Want to keep your photos safe? Instagram now has a 2-stage verification process

Written by : S. Mahadevan

There is increasing clamour from users of social media sites to make their information secure and safe from unscrupulous elements that are engaged in phishing. While the major ones like Facebook and Twitter have already incorporated the 2-stage verification process, Instagram has joined the bandwagon now.

Instagram has left the option to the user to choose the 2-factor authentication. According to reports, Instagram has added this option in the menu and the user has to click on the “required security code” option to get a 6-digit security code.

Only by using this security code can the user access the pages. So, even if there is a hacking or phishing of the site and usernames and passwords get stolen, this security code directly sent to the user’s registered mobile will make sure the data remains secure and private.

Some users may not feel very concerned about this aspect of security, but most experts feel that there is really nothing to lose in choosing to be more cautious, especially since the process itself is quite simple.

In many cases, the technology has been fine-tuned to enable the security code to be directly entered in the window provided if received on the same device, and the authentication is done automatically. If you have stored some important photographs in your Instagram account, go for this 2-factor authentication.
