Samsung Galaxy S9 specs leaked: May sport a modular design and Snapdragon 845 processor

Written by : S. Mahadevan

Though there are some news articles and information still appearing on the Samsung Galaxy S8, there are already leaks, rumors and speculation on the South Korean major’s next flagship, the Galaxy S9.

And the most highlighted part of these bits and pieces of information on the smartphone is that Samsung is toying with the idea of providing the Galaxy S9 with a modular design similar to the ‘Moto-Mod’ where the users can add devices and modules through a set of pins in the rear of the phone. It may similar to the HDMI ports one sees on laptops.

For the record, one has to mention here that this is not the first time such a design is being contemplated. The ones who have tried with some reasonable amount of success are Essential and Motorola.

The word, however, is that Samsung might use the Galaxy S9 to demonstrate the right way to make a modular design work the best on a smartphone.

It must also be emphasized here that there is no confirmation yet from Samsung on this development and it has to be seen only as a reasonable guess based on some details leaked.

Apart from this design and appearance factors, there are also other details available in the form of rumored specs. These include the display being 5.8 inches to 6.2 inches curved Super AMOLED and the processor being Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, which is still sort of work in progress.

The Samsung Galaxy S9 is bound to have the Android Oreo version 8.0 as the OS since it is already available and a dual camera setup in the rear.

Among the other reports, there are suggestions that Samsung may advance the release date for the Samsung Galaxy S9 next year and not wait till the dates followed in the past years. The company may raise the curtains on the device during the MWC, which may happen in February 2018.

There are wild guesses as far the price Samsung may fix for the phone as and when released. It appears there will be two variants, the Galaxy S9 and S9+ and these may be offered at $900 to $1000.

It might a bit too early with most details still being speculated. Also, if the modular design does take place, then the costs could definitely be higher, unless Samsung has found a more economical alternative.
