Written by : S. Mahadevan

Payment gateway company Razorpay has launched corporate credit cards, targeted at startups and SMEs to enroll as customers. The launch came at the company’s annual event, FTX, a fintech conference in Bengaluru.

Along with the corporate credit card, it also announced a special payment gateway for freelancers and ‘homepreneurs’. These are categories of individual business owners, who may not have a website of their own, but may be collecting and disbursing payments. Many of them could be in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities and that could scale up Razorpay’s customer base.

On the corporate credit cards, the startup says it will be like the cards issued by banks, with limits ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 25,00,000. There will be a maximum of 50 days of credit to make the payment. Under RazorpayX, the startup hopes to offer the full suite of banking services, like Debit Cards, Cash transfers, along with FD, RD and other treasury offerings.

The new payment scheme for freelancers will include payment support for 100 currencies thereby opening up to freelancers a larger global platform to carry on their businesses.

Meanwhile, Razorpay has also acquired a company Opfin, a cloud-based payroll and HR management software company. This gives the startup leg space in the payroll management business, including the money flow. The company says it is keen on building its banking services portfolio in order to be of help to its customers and they may not need to go to a bank for any of their financial needs. Razorpay itself has RBL Bank as its banking partner.

RazorpayX is the AI-based banking platform of Razorpay and the company claims its customers can practically do everything they would do with a bank, including operating a current account.
