Infosys arm ties up with Kailash Satyarthi foundation for child labour-free villages

Infosys Foundation, the philanthropic arm of global software major Infosys, on Monday said it has joined hands with Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi's Children's Foundation to create child labour-free villages.

"A grant would be created as part of the tie-up to create a child-friendly village focused towards improving children's health, providing education and creating a non-violent environment," Bengaluru-based Infosys Foundation said in a statement here.

The grant would be given out over the next three years, it said.

The Foundation, however, did not specify the grant amount.

Through the project, Delhi-based Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation aims to benefit 10,000 children, women and youth through education, vocational training and career counselling and improve child protection mechanism in villages. It aims at creating child labour-free villages.

It aims to create 100 percent enrolment and retention in school and also create and recognize a Bal Panchayat, which is a children’s governing body, within the Gram Panchayat (village governing body).

It also aims to create better sanitation and hygiene and have zero incidences of child marriage amd other social evils in the villages of India.

Together, they will work to create improved child protection mechanism in the villages, provide proper water, sanitation and hygiene in the villages and also create awareness about government schemes.

The Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation is a non-profit organization run by Nobel peace laureate Kailash Satyarthi, envisions a world where every child is free, safe, healthy, educated and has the ability to discover their potential. 

The Infosys foundation, chaired by Narayana Murthy’s wife Sudha Murthy, works in the areas of Healthcare, education, culture, destitute care and rural development.

It has implemented programs in Karnataka, and subsequently extended its coverage to Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Gujarat, Jammu & Kashmir, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand and West Bengal.
