Galaxy Note 8 teaser: ‘Bigger’ phone with S Pen Stylus unveiled ahead of Aug 23 launch

When it comes to flagship releases of smartphones by the majors, it is usually the leaks which dominate the discourses on the dedicated websites. But in the case of the much-awaited Samsung Galaxy Note 8, slated for release this August 23, the company’s official website has released a teaser about the phablet and referring to ‘bigger things’; probably since this phone will feature a larger screen than the previous phones released by the company.

There is also the mention of the S Pen Stylus that will be a part of the Galaxy Note 8.

It cannot be denied that Samsung is being over-cautious with this new phone, a second big product launch for the year. This is because the last phone in the Galaxy Note series, the Note 7, caused immeasurable damage to the company’s reputation and the recalls resulted in financial losses as well.

Now coming back to the Galaxy Note 8, in addition to the teaser video from the company there are other details emerging from leaks, particularly from GFXBench and other benchmark sites.

These confirm that the phone or phablet would have a 6.3-inch AMOLED display with the aspect ratio being kept at 18.5:9. This would place this phone with the largest real estate on the display screen among the Samsung phones and will be promoted as such.

There are some differences in the details leaked from two different benchmark sites. This is particularly evident in the camera setup details. While there is agreement that the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will feature a dual camera setup, one set of reports suggests it would be a 12MP+13MP sensor combination, while the other indicates it would be 12MP+8MP configuration. But there is agreement that the cameras will be amply backed by many additional features like optical image stabilization (OIS), autofocus and 2X optical zoom and so on.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will come with 6GB RAM and 64GB internal memory. The OS will be the Android Nougat version 7.1.1 out of the box.

On the CPU front Samsung might follow the dual option policy of fitting the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC on the phablet for some markets, including the US, while the in-house chipset Exynos 8895 clocking 2.4GHz, might be preferred for several other markets.

Rest of the information and importantly the pricing details will only be known on the release date which is hardly a few days away. One report does suggest that the phablet may be priced in Europe at 999 Euros. This roughly works out to Rs 75, 000.

But as mentioned, this is just a wild guess by one of the market observers. There are also reports that the phone will be released in a number of colors.
