Nakul Kumar, the founder of smartphone exchange startup Cashify took to Twitter complaining about various instances of fraudsters and imposters cheating customers of Cashify. He has indicated in his tweet that there were as many as 14 occasions when he and his team had taken up with the police in Pulikeshi Nagar and not once did the police respond and take action against the culprits.
“It all started with a complaint we received on 7th March from Bangalore where a customer had not been paid for selling his Apple Watch on Cashify. Note: Cashify doesn't buy Apple Watches. Someone was clearly posing as Cashify,” he tweeted.
The cases relate to fraudsters posting on sites like Olx.com claiming to purchase old iPhones and Apple Watches and pay for them. They would pose as if they are from Cashify. Customers would believe their claims and handover their devices. They would never receive the money in exchange. The interesting part is these imposters were committing a perfect crime by issuing out acknowledgments to their victims on receipts that had the Cashify logo.
Nakul Kumar claims once the company came to know its name was being misused by the criminals and the trust level among the public on their genuine deals would be seriously impacted, they approached the Pulikeshi Nagar police station with the details. These kept getting repeated through the month of March this year. As the police failed to take any action, not even register a FIR, the team at Cahsify decided to take things to the hand themselves.
They laid a trap and went and caught hold of the individuals and took them to the same Pulikeshi Nagar police station and handed them over to the cops. But still, Cashify was appalled to learn that the criminals were let off by the police after obtaining an apology in writing.
“The fated hour. At 4pm, the imposters reaches the seller's house, where our team had already stationed itself, and get busted. We turn them in to the Pulikeshi Nagar Police Station but no action is taken as ‘all culprits involved were not arrested yet’. Having remanded the fraudster overnight, the officials tell us on March 28 to write a fresh complaint negating all criminal aspects of the case in order to get an NCR instead of an FIR. Because election duty! They are busy with politics to deal with people,” he tweeted.

Angered with this inaction at the police station level, the company then met with the Commissioner of Police, Bangalore city and filed a complaint. But they claim there is still no action initiated.
“So I guess I just want to ask all the tweeps here, what is too malign a crime to get registered? We had the proofs, we had the victims. What we didn't have was the support of the custodians of law who're supposed to use those to favour justice. SHAME!” he added.
The Police Commissioner has now reacted saying action will be taken.
