Apple may launch four new iPhones this year

Written by : S. Mahadevan

Is Apple Inc planning to add 4 more new phones to its range this year? This appears to be the case if you were to trust the word being spread around based on information Forbes has gathered from some vendors.

The speculation is these four smartphones will be a next generation iPhone X, and iPhone X Plus or whatever name the company may assign to them; then there would be a budget iPhone, which may also go with the same nomenclature of a X suffix and there may be the iPhone SE as well.

The iPhone SE may come in as early as this month itself, while the remaining will be released as per their normal calendar in September.

The discussion on the iPhone SE is whether Apple will make some changes to its design, but the consensus appears to be it may not. Rather, Apple may pick the later phone like the iPhone 7 or 8 and build a budget phone around it with change in the components inside to keep the cost down. How much of a decrease or increase in the price this tinkering will bring about, one has to wait and see.

On the iPhone X, the rumor is that it would sport a larger 6inch+ sized display and the camera setup will have only one sensor in the rear and the facial ID will be part of the features. These reports suggest Apple could price it in the $700 region.

The iPhone X Plus could be the higher end model with its price close to $1,000. But it is feasible, there may be some extra benefits such as a fast charger etc.

Apple is working on fine-tuning its marketing strategy by introducing a budget model to ramp up the volumes and make a more nuanced value for money proposition at the top-end to retain the customers’ interest in their superior technology.
