Five Less Touristy Places To Visit In Udaipur Beyond City Palace

It is best you skip out on some of the cliché tourist spots because the last thing we want for you is to feel overwhelmed in a crowd of people.

We all love travelling but some of us may have social anxiety. Yeah, the two of them seem like far two ends of a branch but it is what it is, right? When I planned on starting to travel along, I wanted to explore places that most of the solo travellers wouldn’t. So, I started with Udaipur. I asked one of my friends, who is from Udaipur, to suggest me some places to visit. She told me it is best you skip out on some of the cliché tourist spots because the last thing she wanted was for me to feel overwhelmed in a crowd of people. So, I explored some of the less touristy places which are equally scintillating and magical as the place itself.

Udaipur heritage walk

I knew well before that Udaipur is known for its shops and small lanes with roadside stalls. But, visiting the Udaipur heritage walk, I realized how underrated these spots are. The entire lane is a like a walking dream for a shopaholic and art and handicrafts lovers. Walk down the lanes to witness some amazing cultural ceremonies happening in the temples. The experience visiting that spot was one of a kind.

Sajjangarh Palace

I am not the biggest fan of forts and palaces but the kind of rave I heard about the Sajjangarh Palace, I had to visit it. It is also often known as the Monsoon palace and is known for being an amazing view point for the sunset. I asked the locals and they suggested that I be at the top of the palace by three in the afternoon, so that is what I did. Well, my legs weren’t the happiest after the climb but the view of the sunset in the end beat every last ounce of fatigue I was experiencing.

Jag Mandir Palace

Yet another spot that I was told was underrated was the Jag Mandir Palace. Located in the middle of a water body, this palace screams luxury and royalty. It is built on an island on Lake Pichola and let me tell you, I can’t comprehend in words how beautiful the architecture is. Every single wall has a special touch to it which you would be a fool to miss out on. The marble architecture with the detailing is something that left me with my mouth hanging open. The view of the lake from the palace is too serene to miss out on.

Government Museum at Ahar

I was a bit skeptical when my friend said that I had to visit the Government Museum at Ahar when I asked her but it paid off. The place is actually a less packed spot, so you get to stand and adorn everything that the place has to offer. I was not very happy visiting a museum because I tend to get bored very easily but walking through this place, I didn’t want the road to end. Every single art piece and every single architectural display is unique. The ruins that are scattered all around reminded me of the authenticity that the state of Rajasthan is known for. While walking down, all I wanted was for this journey to never end.

Jawahar Nagar

The last spot and possibly the only spot that I was dreading to visit was the Jawahar Nagar. The place is known for its adventure activities like ropeways and such. I am not the biggest fan of heights and the last thing I wanted was to have another panic attack but I would definitely say that visiting this place was worth the time and money that I spent. The place doesn’t overcharge you, so you are assured to get the best deals around. The beauty of the place around from the ropeway was enigmatic and something that I wouldn’t forget for a very long time.

If you hear someone say that Udaipur isn’t for solo travellers, tell them that they are wrong. Everything aside, I had an amazing time exploring the places that most people otherwise wouldn’t. The streets and the hospitality that I received there is something that I didn’t even think was possible to get. While we are at it, make sure to devour every last food from the local cuisine like kachoris, pani puris and pav bhaji before you leave.
