YSRCP MP Vijayasai Reddy reinstated as Andhra special representative in Delhi

Written by : TNM Staff

The state government on Sunday reappointed V Vijayasai Reddy as the Special Representative of the Government of Andhra Pradesh at Andhra Pradesh Bhavan in New Delhi, days after it had scrapped its Government Order (GO) which appointed him the first time.

The withdrawal of orders came after the YSRCP realised that if Vijayasai Reddy took his salary for the special representative post, it would be in conflict with his existing position as an MP, thereby amounting to office of profit.

Despite the state's earlier orders, Vijayasai Reddy had not assumed office and was consulting several people on the decision, despite orders for the same being issued on June 22

To circumvent this, the state government has ensured that Vijayasai Reddy has been reappointed but given the status of a 'State guest', unlike the cabinet rank that the previous appointment had offered. As he would will not be entitled to any other perks, the YSRCP feels that the move could not be challenged in a court.

The post was earlier held by Telugu Desam Party (TDP) nominee K. Rammohan Rao.

Vijayasai Reddy, who was elected to Rajya Sabha in 2016, is also the general secretary of the party.

A chartered accountant by profession, he has been associated with the party ever since it was floated by Jagan in 2011. He is also known to be close to Chief Minister Y S Jagaan Mohan Reddy and his family.

In 2012, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had arrested Vijayasai Reddy, then financial advisor for Jagan's firms in quid-pro-quo cases. They spent several months in jail.

The cases relate to investments made by various companies in Jagan's firms as quid pro quo for favours bestowed on them during the tenure of his father Y S Rajasekhar Reddy as Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh between 2004 and 2009.
