Villagers lynch 3 Maoists in AP-Odisha border

The News Minute | October 21, 2014 | 9.00 am ISTVillagers of Malkangiri district in Andhra Pradesh lynched three Maoists on Sunday night. The incident occurred in Chitrakonda block near the Andhra-Odisha border, reported the New Indian Express.The Maoists had killed G. Sanjeeva Rao thinking that he was a police informer. He was lifted from his house on Sunday evening and was killed after the praja court of the Maoists declared him an informer. The exasperated villagers, around 400 of them, walked into a secret place where the Maoists were having a meeting and attacked them with sticks and sharp agricultural tools. Three of the extremists were killed and seven others were injured in the attack. The villagers also handed over to the police an AK-47 gun that they seized from the Maoists. Those killed was recognized by the police as area committee members of the outlawed CPI(M). Fearing a retaliation from the Maoists’ side, extra security forces have been deployed in the village.
