TV anchor arrested for demanding Rs 5 crore bribe to stop telecast of a story

The News Minute| September 9, 2014| 11.00 am ISTTelevision anchor and crime show host Harshavardhan, well known for his crime shows on several Telugu television channels including TV 9 Telugu, was arrested by the Eluru police in Andhra Pradesh for demanding Rs. 5 crore from the management of a dental college.Harshvardhan and four others were arrested for threatening the management of St. Joseph's Dental College and blackmailing them with a sting operation done on the irregularities by the management. Police say that the anchor wanted some money in advance and the remaining cash later. He reportedly was not ready to settle for a smaller amount and finally the college decided to approach the police.Harshvardhan used to anchor a ten minute segment of crime show at 11:30 PM on TV9 Telugu. He has also acted in some movies. Sources say that he is an employee of a central government department.It is not established yet if the sting operation on the dental college was done for any particular channel.
