TTD supplies free food to stranded pilgrims as rain lashes Tirumala

Written by : TNM Staff

Even as heavy rain continued to lash parts of Andhra Pradesh for the seventh day in a row on Sunday, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) supplied free food to the stranded pilgrims at the temple as well as railway and bus stations in Tirupati, the Times of India reported.

According to the report, all the streets in Tirumala are under knee-deep water and the TTD closed down the second ghat road and the pedestrian pathways as a precautionary measure after landslips were reported on Sunday.

Other reports added that rain water entered guest halls and the open area in front of the temple which earlier housed the 1000-pillar structure. Many took shelter in shops, the Nadaneerajanam open auditorium and eateries to save themselves from the downpour.

The TTD also appealed to devotees not to bring children and elderly to the temple till the weather cleared.

The three districts of Kadapa, Chittoor and Nellore continued receiving heavy rain as the Meteorological department forecast more rain due to a likely low pressure area building up in the Bay of Bengal.

Tirumala received the highest ever rainfall of 107 cm this month, which is more than the annual average rainfall of the entire state.
