Three people have died and as many as ten others have been injured in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizianagaram after two state transport buses met with a severe accident on Monday morning. According to reports, after the buses met with an accident near Sunkeripet village in Vizianagaram mandal, a truck also rammed into the two vehicles. As per local reports, the pile-up took place due to low visibility in the area.

A group of local residents had set fire to a pile of garbage located near the spot of the accident, and smoke from the fire had spread across the area, lowering visibility. The drivers of the RTC buses could not see the other bus coming from the opposite direction, and both vehicles collided with great force.

Visuals of the accident show the front portion of both buses were damaged completely. Another visual shows how the truck, carrying HP gas cylinders, rammed one of the buses from behind.

‘108’ ambulances were rushed to the spot and ten people were taken to hospital for treatment. The condition of three people injured in the collision is said to be critical. According to the police, the drivers of the two buses and a passenger have lost their lives.

Former Andhra Chief Minister and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu has expressed grief over the incident.

“Deeply pained at the loss of lives due to a bus accident in Vizianagaram. Our heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased. Wishing speedy recovery to those injured,” Chandrababu Naidu tweeted.

Further investigation is underway.
