The News Minute| July 9, 2014| 3.30 pm ISTAndhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narasimhan, a witness in the AgustaWestland case was questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation for almost two hours starting at 11:30 am on Wednesday. Narasimhan was the Intelligence Bureau Director when the deal was struck in 2010. CBI officers recorded his statement on the deal to buy 12 helicopters from AgustaWestland. Reports say that Narasimhan, was part of the meeting where the decision to reduce the maximum height at which a helicopter can perform optimally was taken. This reduction in maximum height made AgustaWestland eligible for the chopper deal. The deal which was in place by 2010 was cancelled in 2013 after various allegations began to surface about the deal. The allegations were that crores of money was given as bribe in the Rs 3,726-crore deal to certain Indian defence officials, others and a European middleman. Other governors have also been questioned in connection with the case. This includes former West Bengal Governor MK Narayanan and former Goa Governor BV Wanchoo. Narayanan and Wanchoo also were questioned as witnesses as they also attended the meeting were the maximum height of the helicopters in the race was determined.
