The News Minute | July 1, 2014 | 12:02 PM IST Telangana Education Minister G Jagadeeshwar Reddy said that his government will not be paying the arrears of Seemandhra students. The reference is to poor students who took admissions in colleges in Telangana during previous academic years and are now pursuing the course. Jagadeeshwar Reddy says that either the Andhra Pradesh government or the Centre  has to bear the fee arrears which has come up to Rs 1,800 crore.The announcement comes after the managements of engineering and other professional colleges on Monday sought payment of arrears of the academic year 2013-14. Reddy asked why should the Telengana government pay the fees of the AP students. Answering a question on how the government will differentiate between AP students and Telengana students, he said - “We are considering various proposals. People residing in Telangana at the time of formation of AP will be considered locals here. Students’ parents should have been residents of Telangana in 1956. A final decision is yet to be taken.”When the media questioned as to how the children will produce the nativity certificates of their parents from 1956 Reddy replied- “There is no need for Telangana students to prove their nativity. We can identify them by their names, surnames or by looking at their faces. The taxes paid by Telangana people should be spent for their benefit only.”
