TDP government to probe irregularities in schemes implemented during Congress regime by YSR

The News Minute | January 4, 2015 | 8:30 am ISTThe TDP government on Saturday has decided to probe into the cloud seeding program which was initiated by the former chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy under the Congress Regime, a cabinet sub-committee headed by finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu announced.According to a report in the Times of India, Rs 120 crore was spent on the program to augment rains in drought hit areas. However, the sub-committee claimed that the entire program appeared “dubious”.The committee also added that the schemes had caused huge financial loss to the exchequer and seeks action against those responsible for the irregularities. Information minister Palle Raghunath Reddy, who is also a member of the sub-committee said that the government will conduct a re-audit of the accounts. Based on an expert panel's report on whether the program caused any rainfall, the government may initiate legal action and invoke provisions of the revenue recovery Act.
