TDP declares late Tirupati MLA's wife as candidate for the by elections

The News Minute | January 15, 2015 | 8:50 am ISTThe TDP on Wednesday, in a bid to retain its Tirupati assembly seat declared Sugunamma, wife of late M Venkatarama as its candidate for the byelection due to be held on February 13.M Venkatarama who was the Tirupati MLA passed away while undergoing treatment in a hospital in Chennai. AP chief minister Chandrababu Naidu discussed the issue with his widow soon after the death of the MLA, a report in the Times of India adds.After the Election Commission announced the dates of the bypolls last week, several local leaders met Sugunamma and extended their support to her. In what seems like the party, resorting to the sympathy factor, Naidu has also apparently made it clear to the few aspirants that wished to represent the party that the widow will be the candidate.TweetFollow @thenewsminute
