In a shocking incident, a retired district judge and his wife allegedly killed themselves by jumping in front of two different moving trains on Friday near the temple town of Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh. Their bodies were found on a rail track between Tirupati-Renigunta in the suburbs of the main town.

Pamuluru Sudhakar, 65, a resident of Tirupati and a former additional district judge, committed suicide at about 11 a.m. His wife, Varalakshmi, took her life in the same manner at about 4 p.m. after learning of her husband’s death, according to Tirupati Railway DySP Ramesh Babu.

Police recovered a suicide note by Sudhakar in which he claimed he was unable to bear the trauma of a long-standing kidney-related ailment, the deputy inspector said.

The bodies have been recovered by police and sent to a local mortuary. An investigation is underway.

After the judge’s retirement, the couple resided in an apartment in Tiruchanuru. They are survived by their son, Sandeep, and daughter, Savitha, who are both working as software engineers in Bengaluru.

Last year, a 56-year-old additional senior civil judge committed suicide in Tirupati after he had been suspended by the Hyderabad High Court.
