Principal allegedly forces 13-year-old student to undergo pregnancy test in AP

The News Minute | March 17, 2015 | 3:20 pm ISTA 13-year-old student in Andhra Pradesh has alleged that her school principal forced her to undergo a pregnancy test based on suspicions that she was having an affair with a teacher.The incident came to light when the student complained to MLA Vanthada Rajeswari who was inspecting the tribal welfare girls residential school in Zaddangi, East Godavari district on Sunday."The student was upset and told the MLA that the principal asked her if she was getting her period regularly. She also complained that the officials had conducted a pregnancy test on her. How can an eighth standard girl be subjected to such indecent behaviour?” a source close to Rajeshwari told The News Minute.There were reports of other students who had complained that they were being followed and a record of their menstrual cycles was being maintained by the nurse at the behest of the principal, C.H. Sunder Rao.A member of the district child welfare committee, Balu Akkisa visited the school on Monday and enquired about the incident. He took the statement of The Auxiliary Nursing Midwife (ANM) and also spoke to some of the other students.However, he could not speak to the student as she was sent home by the hostel authorities.Post by Balu Akkisa.The student was apparently taken to the government hospital at Zeddangi where a doctor conducted the test on the principal's orders.A detailed report will soon be submitted to the state child welfare committee. TweetFollow @thenewsminute
