The Guntur Police forcibly foiled the indefinite fast by Jagan Mohan Reddy during the early hours of Tuesday and shifted him to the Government General Hospital (GGH) as the YSRCP chief was entering the seventh day of his fast.

According to a report in The Hindu, a team led by Additional Superintendent of Police J. Bhaskara Rao reached the venue at 4 am and moved Jagan, even as supporters shouted slogans. 

Jagan has been fasting for the granting of the 'special category status' for Andhra Pradesh. Jagan’s wife Bharathi, his sister Sharmila and mother Y S Vijayamma also went with him to GGH.

This came a day after State health minister Kamineni Srinivas rushed to Guntur and directed doctors at the government general hospital (GGH) to closely monitor Jagan, who is also the leader of opposition in the state.

Medical officers from GGH had advised the 42-year-old politician to break his fast since dehydration would have an adverse impact on the functioning of his kidneys.
