Actor turned politician Pawan Kalyan on Friday stated that he planned to hold a 'Praja Darbar' on the issue of reservations in Andhra Pradesh.

The Jana Sena Party founder was interacting with students of an engineering college at Gooty in Anantapur.

Stating that students who do not get the benefit of quota, must be given financial help, he also suggested that there should be a debate in state assemblies and Parliament on reservations.

This move came in the backdrop of the Andhra government constituting a BC commission to look into the demands of reservation by the Kapu community. 

Pawan Kalyan himself, also hails from the same community.

The Kapu community, make up for nearly quarter of the population in the state, and have demanding OBC status for nearly three decades.

In January, the community protest turned violent when four coaches of the Ratnachal Express were set on fire at Tuni in East Godavari district.

Though Pawan had campaigned for the TDP-BJP alliance during the 2014 state elections and had also supported chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu, TDP official spokesperson Varla Ramaiah on Friday said that if Pawan contested in the next election, he would be treated as TD opponent.

Asking him to undergo a tour of villages to know the problems faced by the poor, Varla told Deccan Chronicle, "Even after agreeing for the package, which is needed for the development of the state, we will continue to press for the SCS."
