Mystery surrounds death of IPS officer by bullet injury in Vizag

In a shocking incident Visakhapatnam Assistant Superintendent of Police K Sasikumar died in a suspected misfire in the wee hours Thursday morning.

Sasikumar, who hails from Salem in Tamil Nadu was a 2012 batch IPS officer, was posted to Paderu, Visakhapatnam in December 2015. This was Sasikumar's second posting after his first stint at Allagadda in Kurnool district. He came to Paderu in January.

Circle Inspector Paderu Sai Kumar, “At around 5 am on Thursday his security person heard the gunshots and went inside and found him in a pool of blood. He died on his way to the hospital.”

“As far we know it’s a misfire. His body is shifted to King George Hospital, the reason of the misfire we can only tell after the investigation,” he added.

"We are not sure whether it happened accidentally or done intentionally. The Visakhapatnam (Rural) SP has rushed to the spot and we are examining the case," North Coastal Zone Inspector General of Police Kumar Vishwajeet told PTI.

It is suspected that the officer, the bachelor, may have committed suicide but there is no clarity on it yet, police sources said.

He had conducted many drives against 'ganja' cultivation and sellers. He also launched anti-narcotics raids due to which drugs worth crores were seizedin February this year.
