Monsoon advances further into Andhra, heavy rainfall predicted in several parts of state

Several parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are expected to receive heavy rainfall, as the southwest monsoon has advanced further, according to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

The IMD has issued a notification saying that the southwest monsoon has further advanced into the central Arabian Sea, Konkan, Maharashtra, north and south of Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh along with most parts of Rayalaseema and central and north Bay of Bengal.

As per the IMD report, favorable conditions have been developing for further advance of southwest monsoon into some more parts of Rayalaseema and parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh during the next few days.

According to Skymet weather, Telangana, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and interior Tamil Nadu are expected to receive scattered light rain.

On Saturday, several parts of Andhra received rainfall. Vizianagaram district received highest rainfall of 8cm, Pathapatnam 7cm, Merkamudidam 5cm, Gajapathinagaram 4cm, Gudur 4cm and Garividi 3cm. The Hans India reported that parts of Rayalaseema also witnessed light showers.

On Sunday, several parts of Telangana also witnessed heavy rainfall.

According to India Today, the weather department has predicted more heavy rains at isolated places in all districts of Telangana on Monday and Tuesday and at isolated places in all the districts of North coastal Andhra Pradesh for next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, officials of the Cyclone Warning Centre have told The Hindu that the southwest monsoon has reached up till Nellore and has remained static. However, it is expected to advance into the remaining parts of coastal Andhra in the next two days.
