The Visakhapatnam rural police on Thursday failed to nab or kill 35-year-old CPI Maoist, Gemmeli Narayan Rao alias Jambri who is on the most-wanted list, after he managed to escape during ‘operation Jambri’ launched in the reserve forest areas between Pepapadu and Kumkumpudi in Andhra.

It is reported that the state government has announced a reward of Rs. 4 lakh for him.

Sources said that following the success in the gun battle on April 4 this year in which three Maoist including Galikonda Area committee secretary Gopal alias Azad was killed, security personnel launched ‘operation Jambri’.

On Tuesday, Maoist leader Marri Veera alias Leivu, who carried a reward of Rs 1 lakh and was involved in seven encounters between Maoists and security forces, surrendered before the Visakhapatnam rural police.

The New Indian Express reported that many militia members also surrendered along with Veera. 

Veera, who lost his parents at the age of 15, was recruited by the senior Maoist leader Gemmili Narayana Rao alias Jambri in 2008, the report added.\

Recently, security forces in AP and Odisha were on a high alert after CPI Maoists central committee leader and Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee secretary, Ramakrishna alias RK was sighted after two years at a recent public meeting at Jantri in Malkangiri district of Odisha.
