‘Mahanadu’ begins with traffic disruptions: TDP to select new party president on Monday

Telugu Desam Party’s 3-day Mahanadu kicked off on Saturday in Vishakapatnam with at least 25,000 party cadre in attendance. The event, where 24 party resolutions are expected to be passed, will conclude on Monday with the election of the next party president.

The first day event took place in the grounds of the AU College of Engineering (AUCE) in the city. High security was maintained at the venue with close to 2000 police personnel deployed for the event. The event will be attended by more than 25,000 party cadre including ministers and TDP MLAs of of the both the Telugu states.

The city on Saturday witnessed huge traffic congestion due to the high flow of people towards the venue. According to The New Indian Express, Maddilapalem-RTC Complex and Siripuram-Waltair stretches commuters were affected due to huge vehicle flow towards the venue.

Even though many policemen were deployed to control the traffic movement, several people had to face inconvenience due to traffic jams. And since the VIP movement was also high in the city, traffic was disrupted at various places.

The residents of Waltair told TNIE that because of the traffic, they had to travel four to five kilometres more than usual.

After the bifurcation, this is the first time that TDP has held two Mahanadus, one each in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.Telangana’s Mahanadu was held on May 24 in Hyderabad, reported India Today.

According to The Hindu several folk artistes have come from different parts of the State to perform at the event.
