The YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh is all set to host a massive event in Eluru in West Godavari District, in an attempt to rally members of communities categorised as Backward Class (BC) in the state. The BCs are a key demographic as the state heads to simultaneous Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha polls, as they comprise roughly 52% of the population.

YSRCP President Jaganmohan Reddy said that he would announce a ‘BC Declaration’ at the Eluru event, in the presence of people belonging to the BC community from all 13 districts of the state. The event is scheduled to begin at 1 pm, at Helapuri City, close to CRR Engineering College in Eluru, and over 2 Lakh people are expected to turn up for it.

“YSRCP chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy convened a BC study committee last year to understand the grievances of the people belonging to the community. Janga Krishnamurthy, YSRCP state BC Cell president, was made the chairman of the study committee. The committee, with the help of 164 BC leaders and organisations, closely studied the current situation of the community, identified their grievances and submitted a comprehensive report to Jagan,” a press release by the party stated.

Many promises such as establishing corporations for all sub-castes within the BC community and prioritizing the representation of BCs in the Assembly would be part of the declaration. YSRCP leaders are also expected to speak about alleged injustice meted out by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to the BC community.

Speaking to reporters at the venue on Saturday, Janga Krishnamurthy said, “Chandrababu Naidu failed to keep the promises made to BCs. Now, if BCs approach him, he is extremely rude and unwelcoming. Jagan is coming up with BC Declaration in BC Garjana which will be of great benefit to the entire BC community.”
