Guntur authorities remove Gandhi statue after protests against bar near statue

Written by : TNM

A bar in Andhra Pradesh took priority over the "Father of the nation" when the authorities in Guntur removed a 23-year-old statue of Mahatma Gandhi. The Neelima bar in Guntur which opened a little while ago saw people object because a statue of a statue of Mahatma Gandhi nearby. However, the fact that the Neelima Bar had already obtained a license from the state government, resulted in the eviction of the Mahatma. While the bar’s papers were in order, Gandhiji, it turns out, had no permission to occupy his pedestal.According to a report in The Wire, protests by the people made the authorities realize that the statue had no permission, while the bar had its papers in order. Not to forget, the irony of the whole situation is perhaps that, Gandhi was a staunch advocate of prohibition.(Before and after shots of the location)
