Jogi Meghana, daughter-in-law of former Andhra Pradesh Minister and YSRCP leader Jogi Ramesh, has sought police protection for herself and her parents, alleging dowry harassment, domestic violence and attempts on her life by her husband and in-laws.
Meghana met Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer at Raj Bhavan on Wednesday, September 9 and submitted a representation seeking protection and a fair, time-bound investigation into the case registered on the basis of her complaint.
In her representation, Meghana alleged that her parents had spent around Rs 5 crore on her wedding and gave gold and silver articles, cash and other gifts. She claimed that her in-laws later demanded another Rs 5 crore, a Toyota Fortuner and diamond jewellery.
She has accused her husband Rajeev, father-in-law Jogi Ramesh, mother-in-law Shakuntala and other relatives of subjecting her to physical and mental harassment over the alleged dowry demands.
Meghana has also alleged that there were several attempts to harm her. She alleged that Rajeev tried to push her into the water from a boat during a trip to Goa despite knowing that she could not swim.
She also alleged an incident at a farmhouse in Ghatkesar, Telangana, and claimed that she was assaulted at her matrimonial home in April 2026. According to her allegations, she was strangled and smothered during the incident.
“My parents and I are facing life threats from my in-laws Jogi Ramesh, Shakuntala, my husband Rajeev, and other family members. Please protect us and take immediate action against those who directly and indirectly harassed me,” Meghana said in her representation.
The Ibrahimpatnam police registered a case on July 24 against Ramesh, Rajeev and nine other family members based on Meghana’s complaint. The case includes allegations under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Dowry Prohibition Act, including cruelty, dowry harassment and attempt to murder.
Meghana has also alleged that her in-laws concealed information about their religious practices before her marriage. She said she was told that the family followed Hindu traditions but later discovered that they practised Christianity.
She clarified that she had no objection to their religion, but alleged that the information was not disclosed to her before the marriage. The dispute subsequently became a political issue.
Ramesh has rejected Meghana’s allegations and accused his political opponents in the Telugu Desam Party of politicising a family dispute. He and other accused family members have approached the court seeking anticipatory bail.
