A forest fire broke out in Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh on Thursday afternoon, resulting in one and a half acres of land being burnt.

The incident is said to have taken place at a forest in Allandhra Road near Patapatanam in the district.

According to reports, fire tenders from Tekkali rushed to the spot after locals informed the forest officials, and doused the flames.

“One and a half acres of forest was in flames. But, only waste plants and dry leaves were gutted and no damage was done to the forest,” Patapatanam forest range officer Soma Sekhar told The New Indian Express.

A similar incident happened last month, when a major fire broke out at two places in the Seshachalam forest in Chittoor district. It was earlier reported that nearly 1,000 hectares of trees were affected in the forest near the Annamaiah pathway leading to Tirumala.

Another smaller fire took place on the same day, at Mallaiahkonda.

The flames even surrounded the ancient Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy temple.

However, the fire tenders and forest officials managed to doused it, before it did considerable damage to the temple.
