A bustling four way intersection in Andhra Pradesh’s Ambajipeta was brought to a standstill for two hours on Wednesday evening, as the son of a YSRCP MLA and his friends took to celebrating the former’s birthday on the middle of the road.

The incident occurred on Wednesday evening and halted traffic from 5 pm to 7 pm. Visuals from the time show several cars, trucks and two-wheelers piled up and rendered immobile because of the celebrations.

Vikash, the son of YSRCP MLA Kondeti Chitti Babu, and his friends had erected displays and cut a cake on the road. According to reports, the group had also played loud music and obstructed traffic. Visuals show people stuck in their vehicles as the group was partaking in celebrations. Several college students too were delayed on their evening commute as a result of the commotion.

An FIR has been filed against them by the Ambajipeta police.

“The traffic in the entire route was blocked for two whole hours and people could not reach home because of Vikash and his friends. We have filed an FIR against them and will take the appropriate action,” stated a police officer from Ambajipeta police station.

An FIR has been filed under sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant)  and 290 (punishment for public nuisance) of the Indian Penal Code as well as under section 32 (penalty for disobeying orders issued) of the Police Act.

Vikash is the son of Kondeti Chitti Babu a first time MLA from East Godavari district’s Gannavaram constituency. Chitti Babu won the 2019 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly from the constituency with 67,373 votes. He’d earlier lost the seat in 2014 to Telugu Desam Party’s Pulaparty Narayana Murty.
