Farmers protest against land pooling in Andhra Pradesh

The News Minute | November 16, 2014 | 12:50 pm ISTFarmers in Rayapudi village, one of the villages selected for building the new capital of Andhra Pradesh, told the land pooling committee to leave the village.The farmers refused to give up their land and questioned the chief minister, Chandrababu Naidu’s plans for the land.According to a report in the Times of India, the local leader said “The chief minister is promising to bring Singapore and Malaysia here. We are proud to be what we are. We do not want to be Singaporeans or Malaysians. We produce 47 varieties of crops while Singapore does not produce even one"The farmers held several rounds of discussions and unanimously decided not to participate in the land pooling.Tension prevailed between some TDP supporters and the farmers which led to strong protests in the village on Saturday.
