Days after a massive controversy broke out against actor-politician Nandamuri Balakrishna for allegedly insulting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the TDP MLA from Hindpur has said that he did not make any such derogatory comments.
Speaking to reporters at Chilakluripet town, Balakrishna said, “I have not used unparliamentary language against the Prime Minister. I can speak Hindi fluently, so there is no chance of going wrong with my words. I am not worried about complaints and cases. I am committed to the cause of AP and only expressed the anguish of the people."
Earlier this week, Balakrishna was speaking at the 'Dharma Porata Deeksha', a day-long fast organised by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in Vijayawada.
The seemingly agitated legislator repeatedly used unparliamentary language and switched to Hindi while slamming the PM in order to convey his message. He even called PM Modi a 'hijra' at one point and took a shot at Modi 'not taking care' of his wife and abandoning her.
Responding to the remarks, BJP leaders demanded an apology from Balakrishna and suggested that he should resign from his post.
The statement by the Hindpur MLA comes even as three separate complaints were lodged against him at different police stations in Hyderabad.
While BJP MLC and Hyderabad president N Ramachander Rao filed a complaint at the Osmania University police station, Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morhca (BJYM) activists approached the Jubilee Hills police station. A private citizen lodged a third complaint at the Banjara Hills police station.
Following the speech, BJP MLA Vishnu Kumar, MLC PVN Madhav along with few leaders also met the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Governor ESL Narasimhan and submitted a memorandum asking him to dismiss Balakrishna from the post.
The Dharma Porata Dheeksha was a hunger strike carried out on Friday by Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu against the Centre over Special Category Status (SCS). The fast began at 7 am and concluded at 7pm.
