Andhra chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday asked the Centre to explore coming out with a Rs 200 note, as the common people were finding it difficult to get change for Rs 2,000 notes.

According to a report in the Times of India, the chief minister urged banks to ensure availability of Rs 50 notes and said that the problem was being faced by traders, farmers and consumers at rythu bazars and other general stores.

“Special counters should be opened for women, elderly and physically handicapped people at banks. The citizens' cooperation in the last five days was commendable...Tight security will be provided at ATMs and banks so that people will be able to draw money without any hassles," TOI quoted him assaying.

Last week, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief, who had long been demanding that Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes be abolished, welcomed the demonetisation.

He had said abolishing the big currency notes was necessary to check those who are buying votes and misusing the people's mandate.

Terming black money as the root cause for all the evils, Naidu said this could be curbed by abolishing cash and currency transactions and making all transactions through banks compulsory.

However, Naidu tweeted that the central government needed to reassess the introduction of Rs 2,000 notes, and tread with caution before introducing new denominations.

Stating that it needed elaborate discussions, he called for looking at the alternatives.
