Decisions on Polavaram and PPAs came after discussions with PM Modi: YSRCP MP

YSRCP MP Vijayasai Reddy on Wednesday evening said that all decisions taken by the Andhra Pradesh government, were done only after consultation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.

Speaking to reporters in New Delhi after meeting Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal, Vijayasai Reddy said, "The state government and Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy have informed both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah on all the decisions we have taken; whether it is reverse tendering of Polavaram or the Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)."

"All the decisions were taken after discussions with the Centre and we would request people not to fall for the TDP's misinformation campaign," he added.

Last week, the state government issued a notification for reverse tendering of the Polavaram project, for works estimated to cost Rs 4,900 crore. As partial work on the project is already completed, the state has ordered for the pre-closure of the previous tender and called for a fresh tender.

A row is also underway in the state over the YSRCP's decision to review and re-negotiate power purchase agreements (PPAs) made during the tenure of Jagan's predecessor, Chandrababu Naidu. PPAs are agreements made between a company that generates electricity and a power purchaser, and the state government is seeking to withdraw 21 PPAs with renewable energy companies.

Meanwhile, the YSRCP MP said that he had met Piyush Goyal as the state government found fault with the bifurcation of the Waltair division by the Centre when it announced a separate railway zone for Andhra Pradesh, with its headquarters in Visakhapatnam.

The South Coast Railway included the existing Guntakal, Guntur and Vijayawada divisions, but bifurcated the revenue-making Waltair division between Odisha and Andhra.

Andhra Pradesh has been demanding that the entire Waltair division be restored to it.
