AP junior doctors follow Telangana counterparts, indefinite strike from today

Written by : TNM

The News Minute | November 22, 2014 | 8:15 am ISTThe AP Junior Doctors’ association has decided to boycott all duties except emergencies following the launch of an indefinite strike by the junior doctors from Saturday. This strike is a result after talks with Health minister Kamineni Srinivas failed to give the doctors an assurance on the abolition of one year compulsory rural service rule.According to a report in the Times of India, the junior doctors claimed that Kamineni had been given sufficient time to discuss the issue with the chief minister and settle it but failed to do so.This incident comes in the wake of the High court terming the Telangana junior doctors strike as illegal. The Telangana doctors have been protesting from September 27 for the same reason.Junior doctors in both states claim that they are not against serving in rural areas but the government should appoint them on a permanent basis to fill vacancies in the hospitals. The AP Health minister refused to budge adding that the government would follow the recent high court directive on the strike of Telangana junior doctors.
