The News Minute | November 12, 2014 | 10:35 am ISTAfter the all the debates on the issue of land pooling, the latest debate in the state of Andhra Pradesh seems to be selecting a name for the capital.According to a report in The Times of India, Some influential leaders in the ruling Telugu Desam Party feel that Amaravati could be the ideal name for the new capital as a tribute to the Amaravati ruins.Amaravati ruins located in the Guntur district, is an internationally known Buddhist site with a glorious history dating back to the days of the emperor, Ashoka. It was also a very important place for Buddhism during the 2nd century BC.Speculation has also been going around that the capital might be named NTR Nagar after the TDP founder and former AP Chief Minister who was known for breaking the congress monopoly in the state. The current Chief Minister of the state, Chandra Babu Naidu is apparently playing it safe and has not said anything about the name to the media or his party members.
