An employee of a software firm in Andhra was arrested on Thursday for sending a mail to the management in which he threatened to blow up the office if he was not paid Rs one crore.

On January 1, T Subrahmanya Varma, director of Clove Technologies Private Limited registered a complaint with the Pothinamallayyapalem police in which he alleged that he had received a mail from an anonymous person that a bomb had been placed in the company building and that the location of the explosive would be disclosed only if he was paid Rs one crore, as per a report in the New Indian Express.

Following this, a police team rushed to the company but the bomb squads were unable to locate any explosive and the mail was declared as a hoax.

An investigation identified the accused as N Sai Vamsi alias Raju, who had run up a debt of more than Rs 5 lakh. He had hatched the elaborate plot to earn quick money in order to repay his debt, the DCP said.

The police located the IP address of the computer from which the mail was sent and traced it to an internet café in Maddilapalem.

A case has been registered under Section 387 and Section 66 of the IT Act.
