Andhra Pradesh: Irrigation Ministry to start functioning from Vijayawada, the proposed state capital

Uma Maheswara Rao's announcement that he along with his staff will function from Vijayawada, the proposed capital of Andhra Pradesh.The All India Service officials, chief engineers and HODs in the irrigation department are all of the opinion that the education of their kids and the lack of facilities in Vijayawada will make life difficult. The Minister has said that the shift will not be drastic and in fact that it will be a slow process. The department has six IAS officials, four deputy secretaries, two engineering in chiefs and eight chief engineers as HODs of various departments. In all the staffs number comes around 3000. Right now the possibility is that the Secretariat staff might stay back, and the 200 odd engineering staff may move out to function from Vijayawada. The secretariat of the department is set to remain in Hyderabad.
