The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), on Tuesday, December 24, charged suspended senior IPS officer N Sanjay with alleged misuse of funds. The case follows an investigation ordered by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP)-led NDA government based on a report from the Vigilance and Enforcement (V&E) Department.

Sanjay, currently serving as Additional Director General of Police, is accused of irregularities during his tenure as Director General of State Disaster Response and Fire Services and Chief of Crime Investigation Department (CID) under the previous YSR Congress Party government. The ACB alleges that he misused approximately Rs 2 crore in government funds.

One allegation involves a contract awarded to Sautrika Technologies Infra Private Ltd. for managing the AGNI-NOC website, mobile application development and operation, and the supply of 150 tablets. The ACB claims Rs 59.93 lakh was paid to the company without any work being completed.

Further allegations surround payments made to Kritvyap Technologies. Sanjay is accused of authorizing Rs 1.19 crore to the company for organizing awareness programs on the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for Dalit and tribal communities. However, the ACB claims these programs never took place.

The ACB asked Chief Secretary A Santhi Kumari for permission to act against Sanjay under section 17A (enquiry or inquiry or investigation of offences relatable to recommendations made or decision taken by public servant in discharge of official functions or duties) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Upon receiving approval, the ACB registered the case, naming Sanjay as the first accused, Sautrika Technologies Infra Private Ltd. as the second accused, and Kritvyap Technologies as the third accused.

Sanjay was suspended from his position on December 4 for allegedly violating conduct rules. The General Administration Department ordered him to remain at headquarters under Rule 3 (1) of All India Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1969.
